Miguna to Raila: Why can’t the handshake bring me back to Kenya?

Self-styled NRM ‘general’ and NASA activist Miguna Miguna has taken Raila Odinga to task to explain why his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta has not warranted his return.

Miguna is a two-time victim of state deportation. He was first deported on February 6 over his role at the unofficial swearing-in of Raila as the People’s President.

The firebrand lawyer stamped the oath documents which expressly thrust him at loggerheads with the state.

He was charged in court and was held in police custody for five days before he was deported back to Canada.

He then returned on March 26 where he treated the country to a 72-hour drama at JKIA due to a stand-off between him and the state.

Miguna was held at JKIA incommunicado for three days and efforts by his legal team led by lawyer James Orengo to secure his release hit a snag.

He was ultimately deported on the night of March 28.

But in a series of tweets yesterday, Miguna questioned why the March 9 handshake between Uhuru and Raila cannot warrant his return.

“If I committed treason for swearing you in, why haven’t you been arrested, detained and exiled like me? If your #handcheque with Uhuru seeks to “reconcile” Kenyans, why am I not in Kenya? Be honest with Kenyans,” said Miguna.

In a separate tweet, he taunted Raila for failure to live up to his own words of having him back in the country.

“At Ahero and Kisumu towns, you told thousands of #NRMKe supporters that “Miguna will be back home on March 26, thanks to the handshake”. What are you now telling them? Why haven’t you condemned Uhuru for violating my rights?”
