Maria is a favourite for many people who watch the Mother-In-Law show that airs every Sunday on Citizen TV.
Maria (Sophia Waithera Muhia) cuts the image of a cunning house help who is nosy and high-headed.
She also brings another humorous side as a woman who would love a better life other than being a house help.
Beyond the screens, not much is known about Maria.
Speaking recently to YouTuber Hiram Kamuhunjia, she said that she is a mother of three, her first born now 27 years old.
However, life has not always been rosy as it seems when she comes to the screens every Sunday evening.
At the age of 19, she had settled down for marriage which would last for 16 years but left her with deep emotional wounds which are covered by his jocular character on TV.
”I was married at 19 years old and stayed in the marriage for 16 years. I got my three children from the same father. I got my firstborn Dennis at age 21, then my second baby Linet at 24 years and then after nine years got my third baby Victor,” she recalled.
Her marriage took a beating as soon as she conceived her third born now 15 years old. Her husband changed and would eventually leave her to raise the kids single handedly.
“When I got pregnant with baby number three, my husband started acting unusual. He did not want another child and kept saying whoever told me to get another child should come and take care of it,” she recalled.
”I thought that maybe after giving birth, he would come back, but he has never come back. He literally left us. I actually thought he would come back three years later. I decided to start a new life, and for the last 15 years, I have been living as a single mother.”
Her only mistake was getting pregnant with a second child, she recalled sadly adding that her ex-husband has never bothered to ask about his children’s welfare 15 years later.
He would settle down with another woman and together, got two kids.
Maria disclosed that from the onset, he always wanted to have two wives with four children – two children from each of his wives.
Maria said that it has not been easy raising the kids alone but she is thankful that she has managed to raise them singlehandedly.
