Shocked has gripped residents of Kivaruka village in Embu following the discovery of a nurse’s body, Wawira Nyaga lying in her house.

Wawira, 38, was a nurse at Kithimu Health Centre. A neighbor discovered her body around Thursday noon when she failed to pick up her call.

At the same time, her 23-year-old boyfriend only identified as Munene was found in a nearby bush unconscious.

An eyewitness says that they first discovered Munene’s body lying in bush empty beer bottles and juice bottle lying beside him.

He was foaming in the mouth and was unconscious. This is when they decided to reach out to Wawira to inform her that her boyfriend needed medical attention but she could not be reached.

A neighbor Marion Mukami said that they decided to look for her at her house and found her dead.

“Her phone was ringing but she wasn’t picking up. That’s when some of the neighbours went to her house and discovered her door had been locked from inside,” Mukami told the Standard.

Neighbours resorted to breaking the door after efforts to wake her up proved futile.

The two were last seen at a local bar together.

Wawira had separated from her husband a few years back and moved on despite having a 10-year-old daughter together.

Her body was taken to Embu Level Five mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Embu West Sub-county deputy police commander Samuel Gitau said that Munene was rushed to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
