Nakuru cop found dead in his car was dating a senior officer’s wife

Ogweno with Kangogo

Constable John Ogweno, a police officer stationed at the Kasarani police station, Nakuru County who was found dead on Monday had an illicit affair with a senior officer’s wife.

It is alleged that the deceased had a long-running affair with Corporal Caroline Kangogo who was also a police officer at the same station.

A police officer privy to the investigations intimated that Kangogo who is on the run was a wife to a senior police officer at the station.

The source said that an altercation ensued on Sunday night after the senior police officer went to Kangogo’s house and found Ogweno and Kangogo together.

“She must have shot him at very close range. The shooter first broke the driver’s window before shooting him. He (Ogweno) might have started the car to pursue the other male officer or escape from Kangogo,” the source told the Standard.

Ogweno was found in his car on Monday morning by Sergeant Joseph Ologe. Its engine was still running and the driver’s window was shattered.

He had been shot on a close-range on his right side of the head. But none of the police officers in the police line heard the gunshot.

Kangogo was identified as the prime suspect. A warrant for her arrest was issued and the public warned that “she is armed and dangerous”.

“Caroline Kangogo has gone missing to an unknown destination. If seen, treat her as armed and dangerous,” read part of the report.

Initially, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had issued a directive to ban relations among police officers in a bid to curb the recent cases that have become rampant.

“You are officers, we don’t expect you to leave here and go have affairs with constables who you are managing, when it gets to that level one of you has to leave,” Matiang’i stated in June.
