Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura escaped death by a whisker on Tuesday evening after an irate group of youth attacked him.
Photos doing rounds in social media showed blood oozing from his left ear before he was rushed to Nairobi Hospital for ear reconstruction.
Speaking to KTN on Wednesday morning, the MP said those who attacked him were supporters of his competitors.
Mwaura was allegedly attacked by the irate youths after confronting his competitor together with his supporters who he says, were pulling down a boda boda shade he had constructed.
“Yesterday while I was attending another function I was informed that my competitors were demolishing the shade and when I went there, they confronted me, they were armed and that’s when the attack happened.”
“It was an assassination attempt but I think the aim was to make sure I am incapacitated so that again I don’t participate in party primaries,” said Mwaura.
The MP who is vying for Ruiru Parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket insists that the precision with which his ear was hurt was an indication that it was an assassination attempt.
He said doctors told him that should the injury have gone an inch deeper, it would have affected his brain.
He also said that the competitor in question, whom he did not name, has in the past been pulling down his campaign posters.
He said his competitor has developed a violent streak and he is on record attempting to bring down Mwiki Primary school’s wall to cast the incumbent MP Esther Gathogo as a non-performer.
Mwaura said he will move to court to press charges. He has also requested for more security detail.
