Nyeri-born Kenyan man,52, living in Sweden succumbs to COVID-19

A 52-year-old Kenyan man, Kenneth Waburi Munge who has been living in Stockholm, Sweden has succumbed to coronavirus.

Munge is reportedly said to have contracted the virus at a friend’s funeral in Sweden who had also died of coronavirus.

He died on Sunday while receiving treatment at a Swedish hospital. He was before then in critical condition.

Munge who hails from Nyeri County moved to Sweden over two decades ago – in 1996 – and has been living there ever since. He last visited his family in December last year and was making plans to move back permanently.

The father of five will now be cremated and his ashes sent back home according to a family source. 

Munge was a common figure on social media. He was known for his hard-hitting posts on Kenya’s leadership especially that of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His last post was on April 14 where he castigated Kenya’s political class for using every opportunity, even during a crisis to gain political mileage.

He Castigated Kenyan leaders for using the COVID-19 pandemic to gain political mileage.

“Corona lessons!! A matter of principles, facts and logic. Our leaders never cease to surprise us. Every situation is always an opportunity to selfishly advance their political grip. No matter what the cost. Wanjiku, wake UP!!” he wrote.

His death puts the total number of Kenyans who have succumbed to coronavirus abroad at 19.
