One of Africa’s leading e-commerce platforms, OLX is shutting down its operations in Kenya.

OLX will also shut down its Nigeria outlets.

The staff working at the firm’s outlets in these two countries have formally been notified of their termination beginning March according to the Star.

It is not clear how many people in the Kenyan outlet will be affected by the closure.

OLX has been struggling to make its establishment viable in Kenya since 2012.

The platform has been a one stop shop for many Kenyans. From household goods such as electronics, houses, cars and also livestock were readily available in the OLX platform that was quite popular.

Last year, cars, real estate and non-plastic bags were the most searched items.

But with a growing e-commerce platform in the country, OLX has had to remain relevant amid a stiff competition from its business rivals.
