Nairobi County Police Commander Japeth Koome has named “red zones” within the city to be blocked from 6 a.m on Tuesday during President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration.

Koome maintained security is elaborate and police are taking nothing to chance in ensuring all Kenyans remain safe.

The red zones as announced by Koome to be under tight security from the multi-agency team include Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Museum Hill and Aga Khan areas; Wangare Maathai road and Thika Superhighway which leads to the Kasarani Stadium.

During a presser on Saturday in Nairobi, Koome told journalist as reported by the Star that Tuesday will be a historic day and as such, they will do everything possible to make it a success.

“This is a historical day for our country…Let’s ensure it succeeds. We are expecting many international visitors and many heads of state and government,” he said.

“The visitors will move from JKIA to various places. Motorists must cooperate so there is smooth flow of traffic to various places,” he added.

Koome insisted that anyone who will be problematic within the red zones will “be dealt with. Nothing will affect the security of heads of state.”

Among high profile heads of state who have confirmed attendance is Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking about a planned parallel rally by NASA brigade on Tuesday at Uhuru Park, Koome said the opposition must seek for permission from police.

“You must notify the station commander of where the procession will start. Nobody has notified any of the station commanders about any other function on Tuesday,” he said.

“If anybody does not involve police and wants to break below…that person should know we will deal firmly with such cases according to the law.”
