A Polish national who flew a drone into Deputy President William Ruto’s private residence in Karen Hardy early this week has failed to take a plea.
Piotr Lukasz Litwiniuk who was on a tour to Kenya wants the case to be dropped.
His lawyer on Thursday asked the court to defer plea taking to next week adding that he is optimistic the charges will be dropped.
“We would like the court to defer the plea to next week Wednesday. There are discussions going on and we are sure that the charges will be dropped ,” Citizen quotes.
Litwiniuk was asked by the court to lodge his travelling documents with the court until the case is heard and determined.
He was also given an option of Ksh200,000 bond, Daily Nation reported.
Litwiniuk is facing four charges among them, operating an unmanned aircraft without a permit and requisite authorization by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
According to a new law, anyone who owns a drone must seek authorization from KCAA by seeking a pilot license.
“An owner or an operator of a drone should not use it to conduct surveillance or take images of a person without that person’s written consent. This is to protect privacy of persons and property and nuisance,” states the law.
A 30-day temporary permit for foreigners with drones is issued for a permit of Ksh20,000.
Ruto’s wife Rache Ruto reported about the drone at her private residence and security agencies went to the scene.
They traced it to the neighbour, a British national where Litwiniuk was visiting.
Police confiscated the drone’s memory card for analysis.
