Popular benga artiste Muriithi John Walker is dead.

Reports indicate that he fell ill on Friday morning and was rushed to hospital where he passed on.

It is not yet clear what that singer was ailing from but his family says that it was a short illness.

His most famous songs include “nyau iriaga mbia”, “Mrs Number One”, Uhiki Wi Murio” among many others.

Born in Kirinyaga, Muriithi made a name for himself in the music industry way back. His death has touched Kirinyaga residents who enjoyed his music and considered him an icon.

“It is sad to lose such a beautiful soul. I grew up listening to his music and one can tell that is great music,” Kibati Wangotho said.

Jane Wangechi who is not in her early 60s said that the singer tops her playlist.

“Even my husband and children know how much I loved his music. I listen to it every weekend as we enjoy our time with our grandkids and they have come to love the songs too though they are still young,” she said.

In May 2020, another popular benga artiste from Mt Kenya Jimmy wa Yunny died after a grisly road accident along Thika Road.

Jimmy was driving his friend Kibandi Jacksam home when he lost control of the vehicle just before Githurai 45 area.

Jacksam survived the accident but Jimmy was not lucky. He died shortly after he was rescued from the wreckage.
