Opposition leader Raila Odinga says he is ready to form a parallel government even when in exile.

Raila in an interview with Voice of America at his Capitol Hill office on Tuesday said that after his swearing-in on January 30, he will form and run his Cabinet “even from exile”.

“We can even be a government in exile, one that works from outside. It has happened in other countries. What we are saying is that Kenyans can no longer allow an illegitimate government not elected by the people to rule them. We will work like a government, we will form a Cabinet and we will work as a government,” charged the NASA leader.

Raila insisted that he won in the August 8 elections and his swearing-in will be on this premise.

“This is no joke. An illegitimate government is in office, and the one that the people actually wanted to be there is outside. On January 30, we will end this. We will be sworn in with the August 8 results that shows we won,” said Raila.

Already, plans for his inauguration are at an advanced stage.

The Leader of Minority in Parliament John Mbadi on Wednesday said they will have all NASA affiliated legislators swear affidavits to support Raila’s oath plan.

In the August polls nullified by the Supreme Court, President Uhuru Kenyatta had 8,203,290 votes while Raila had 6,762,224 votes.

NASA dismissed the election as a “sham” and a “charade”. After fresh polls were ordered by the Court, Raila withdrew from the race citing lack of faith in the IEBC.

He said electoral reforms were beckoning and would not participate in any election before the electoral system in Kenya is reformed.

But even with his withdrawal, Uhuru was re-elected in the October 26 repeat presidential polls.

He garnered over 7.4 million votes and was declared the winner. His election was upheld by the Supreme Court after it was challenged by two lobby groups and ex-Kilome MP Harun Mwau.

Raila also dismissed rumors that there are differences with his co-principals on account they are opposed to his oath plan.

Some insiders within NASA say that Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula are opposed to the oath plan as it is “confrontational”.

In response to these claims, Raila said that, “There is no rift in Nasa at all. No problems whatsoever. My brothers are fully behind the course.”
