Kenya’s opposition, NASA, has announced it will present the country’s political impasse to the United Nations.

The coalition led by Raila Odinga insists President Uhuru’s re-election on October 26 is “illegitimate”.

With his swearing-in on Tuesday, sources close to the opposition outfit have intimated that NASA is currently working on a petition to challenge Uhuru’s legitimacy before the UN.

The appeal will be addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and African Union (AU) Chair Moussa Faki.

Raila is said to have met several high-ranking officials from African countries during his visit to Zanzibar over a week ago.

According to the Star, he met South Africa’s Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and South African politician Lindiwe Nonceba Sisulu.

Though details of the meeting have not been disclosed, it could be that the result of their meeting, a plan to petition Uhuru’s victory before the UN and Addis Ababa-based AU was hatched.

A team working on the petition is almost finalizing it and brief Raila.

Economist David Ndii and head of the coalition’s technical team, former EALA MP Abubakar Zein, Suna East’s Junet Mohamed and Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka are among those working on the petition.

Raila’s quest in the petition is soliciting for help from the UN in formation of a six-month interim government, a former diplomat and part of the team working on the petition has disclosed.

He wants fresh elections held on February 9.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma said: “We will be telling the UN that no election was held on October 26. It was a charade. The UN must, therefore, be briefed on the repercussions of Uhuru’s swearing-in without being validly elected as President of the Republic of Kenya.

“I hope the United Nations and the AU will look at the issue objectively regarding what an unpopular President means for the country.”

It is yet to be seen if or not UN will intervene.

After the August 8 polls, Raila appealed to the New York-based global agency to audit the results of the polls but it declined.

Guterres in response to the plea by Raila challenged him to take up his grievances through dully established constitutional and legal channels.

Raila has also declared he will take “presidential oath” on December 12 and proceed towards taking over State House.
