Raila’s ‘adopt a polling station’ project hits a snag as only one agent per candidate is allowed in polling stations

NASA Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has launched an initiative dubbed ‘adopt a polling station’ aimed at safeguarding votes during August polls.

Raila while speaking during the launch of the initiative in Nairobi on Wednesday made an appeal to will wishers to support his course which will gobble up sh410 million.

Adopt a polling station basically is an initiative that will have volunteers from NASA keep a close eye on the tallying and transmission of results.

However, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati dealt a blow to Raila as he said the commission will only allow one agent per candidate into a polling center.

Raila had earlier said he will have 10 agents deployed in every polling station across the country.

Each of the 41, 000 polling stations is expected to spend sh10, 000. This is the figure that inspired Raila to make a public appeal for donation of funds.

“It costs Sh10, 000 to adopt a polling station,” he said adding that if it adds up to sh410 million to have the initiative up and running across the 41, 000 polling stations in the country.

“That is the figure we need for the ‘adopt a polling station.”

NASA officials who will be stationed at the polling centers will have a daunting task of ensuring only those votes cast by eligible citizens are tallied.

NASA has come up with what they have described as water-tight strategies to curb any eventuality of election rigging.

The team lead by Raila will set up a parallel tallying center that will have Presidential election results trickle in real time on August 8.

He has enlisted the support of I.T experts from Germany who will set up the equipment as well as be on tabs during the polls to ensure that no votes are stolen.

Raila says such was employed in Ghana last year where the opposition emerged winners.
