Row between Muthama, Kalonzo escalates as he quits Senatorial race to campaign for Raila

The rivalry between Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama continues to intensify.

On Monday, Muthama told the press of his frustrations in Wiper Party.

He announced that he will not be defending his seat come August 8, but did not disclose if or not, he is quitting the Party.

“My decision was influenced by the way Wiper affairs are being conducted,” lamented the Machakos Senator.

Muthama said that he will focus on campaigning for ODM’s Raila Odinga but will not campaign for Wiper.

“I do not feel that I have the face anymore to campaign or face out supporters of Wiper all over because the party has betrayed the people’s trust as it did in 2013 by imposing Governor Alfred Mutua on the people,” he plaintively stated.

He said that Wiper has a lot of injustices and irregularities which he has found hard to live with.

Muthama noted that the party issued direct nomination tickets to some candidates on a selective basis which worked to the disadvantage of some candidates.

“I regret the way Wiper is being micro-managed to the disadvantage of some party members.” said Muthama.

“Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and CCU leader Wavinya Ndeti were given tickets while others were left to go through nominations which were marred by irregularities.”

However, pundits argue that his decision not to vie for the seat in August has been informed by the fact that he does not see eye to eye with incumbent Governor Alfred Mutua and Wavinya Ndeti and either of them, could get the governorship seat in August.

This is the reason according to pundits, Muthama pushed hard for the county’s Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala to be nominated on a Wiper ticket since they have a good relationship.
