Safari Boston, Safari DC & Friendz golf tournament 2017

On Saturday, 9th September 2017, Brookmeadow Country club was packed when about 30 Safari Boston, Safari DC & Friendz golfers plus their fans turned out for another very successful Flying Kites Difference Makers Open golf tournament. The Flying Kites Difference Makers Open is always well supported and is eagerly anticipated by both seasoned golfers and newcomers. This time the focus was on raising funds to help Flying Kites in their quest for buying a school bus for the kids. Monies raised from the entry fee and also the proceeds of a grand raffle will be donated to Flying Kites.

Just as scripted after months of planning, the cold weather Saturday morning gave way to sunshine to allow for a successful tournament at the Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton Massachusetts.

The event sponsored by Comfort Care Transportation, Comfort Care Resource Group, Lascala, Sam Adams, Adamo Day Spa, Golfers Warehouse, Seraphine Photography and Realtor Samson Kimani has become an annual tradition for diaspora golfers, well-wishers and friends.

The fun filled day gave golfers challenging opportunities through hands on activities, like the Hole in one Challenge to win a set of Taylor Made irons sponsored by Golfers Warehouse and many other raffle prizes courtesy of the many sponsors. The golf tournament not only offered fun challenging experiences for golfers, it was also meant to share with the diaspora community information about getting involved with charity to make a difference in people’s lives that we touch with our generosity. At the end, that’s what it’s all about – it’s about reaching out to people and giving back.

It is the dedicated golfers, their fans, friends, well-wishers and other vendors that show up on a yearly basis to support our quest with partnering with Flying Kites ongoing mission & intention of making education a right for all children and poverty alleviation that make this charity golf tournament what it is.Along with having fun, the day also focused on networking a little bit about various diverse resources we have within our community for the benefit of the diaspora community. This year we heard a presentation by Lawrence Muraya of the African Welfare Association ( www.africawelfareassociation.org), Charles Mwangi aka Doc on transport business opportunities, Uncle Ben Mbugua on obtaining mortgage financing and Samson Kimani on real estate investment. The golfers had a great opportunity to learn more about the above mentioned.

Attending the event the last five years the organizers were impressed not only with the turnout, but the diaspora community support for the event. Together we raised $3,493.98 which will be donated to Flying Kites less $200 for administrative fees.

It is efforts & events like this one that ensure, reflect & facilitate the collaboration needed to turn the tide of illiteracy and poverty in our motherland, give our golfers and diaspora residents a sense of pride in their community & bring people together, building friendships and trust among the diaspora. Safari Boston Golf Club applauds all of those who took part in the charity golf tournament event and those who spent countless hours planning for the event. Without all of their hard work it would never come off without a hitch.

Hopefully, support for the event will continue in the coming years, and more vendors will take part.
Flying Kites Difference Makers Open golf tournament is just one of many golf events SBGC hosts every summer. Take time to take part in these golfing events. From now until the end of October there will probably be two more golf tournament opportunities hosted by Safari Boston golf club.
We closed the with a night celebration @elevate dinner dance at the Social Register club in down town Boston.

All participants and volunteers received a six pack SAM Adams beer donated by Sam Adams. Special thanks to Cornor Burke, Sam Adams, for helping with the event. This event could not even be possible without the dedication and support of the tournament organizing committee who worked tirelessly to see that this tournament took off successfully. Without the support of sponsors and the many volunteers who donate their time and energy each and every year, it would be impossible for the participants of these events to come away with such a positive experience. Special thanks once again to Tony Ngari, tournament director, who helps to secure sponsorships and who recruits volunteers for the event.

Sponsors this year included the Comfort Care Transportation, Comfort Care Resource Group, Lascala, Sam Adams, Adamo Day Spa, Golfers Warehouse, Seraphine Photography and Realtor Samson Kimani.
