Nominated Senator Beatrice Kwamboka is on a collision course with Kenya Airways after she was downgraded to the Economy class from Business class.
Kwamboka on Monday filed a petition at the High Court through lawyer Danstan Omari seeking to have KQ’s license suspended.
She told the court that on December 6, she booked a KQ flight to Mombasa for the Christmas holidays.
But it is on December 28 when she discovered that her ticket was allegedly sold to another passenger.
She says her travel to Mombasa was hurdled and it ended up with her two children travelling alone as she tried to look for an alternative to get to Mombasa.
“Regrettably, on December 28 at the time of departure, I was shocked to learn that my ticket had been improperly ‘sold’ to another KQ client without offering me an alternative,” reads court documents according to the Star.
Kwamboka opines that she does not understand why she has to be moved to the Economy class yet she had paid her ticket under Business class.
This, she says, is reason enough for the government to suspend KQ’s operating license.
“Pending hearing of the petition the court be pleased to issue conservatory orders suspending Kenya Airways license to fly and operate in Kenya,” court papers further read.
Even as this happens, a 12-month renovation exercise at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been announced. It will affect 13 Airlines.
A statement on Monday by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said that JKIA’s Terminals 1B and 1C would be affected by the renovation.
“JKIA’s TERMINAL 1B and TERMINAL 1C closed to pave way for renovation works to upgrade the airport and improve on passenger experience,” said KAA in a press statement.
Now, all flights in Terminals 1B and 1C have been moved to Terminal1A and Terminal 2.
British Airways, Emirates, Egypt Air, Egypt Air, Lufthansa German Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Rwandair, Air India, Uganda Airlines, UNHAS, Air Arabia, Air Mozambique, and Turkish Airlines are among the affected.
The renovation will cost Ksh963 million.
