”SGR was our project, Uhuru hijacked it”- Raila launches fresh onslaught on Jubilee

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has trained his guns on Jubilee administration accusing it of hijacking the flagship Standard Gauge Railway project.

Speaking at Orange House where he received Jubilee defectors from Baringo County, Raila launched an attack on Jubilee stating the SGR was a project conceptualized by the coalition government which he served as Prime Minister.

He said everything including the contractor was in plan except that Jubilee hijacked the project

“Jubilee has done nothing. They are just taking credit for the projects done by Grand Coalition Government,” he lamented.

According to Raila, Jubilee upon assuming power in 2013, re-advertised the project and awarded it to a Chinese contractor same as the one who had been identified by Coalition Government but the price was highly inflated.

He further accused the President Uhuru Kenyatta led administration of riding on mega projects initiated by the former government.

Raila seemed to be reading from the same script as Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who months ago ridiculed Jubilee for riding on projects initiated by retired President Mwai Kibaki’s regime.

Just recently, Uhuru on a trip to China formally applied for sh370 billion loan from China’s Exim Bank for the construction of the third phase of SGR.

The first phase from Mombasa to Nairobi has cost sh327 billion while the second phase, from Nairobi to Naivasha cost sh150 billion.

The third phase which is expected to be done using the funds from the newly applied loan, costing sh370 billion and will extend from Naivasha to Kisumu.
