The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has sparked a fiery debate over Sergeant Arnold Kipyegon Kenei murder case saying ‘it doesn’t exist’.

In an interview with Nation on Monday, Haji said his office has not been furnished with the investigation file by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led by George Kinoti.

“There is no Kenei case. The murder/suicide one? No, that file has never come to us,” Haji stated.

He said without the probe file by DCI, prosecution of the case is merely a pipe dream.

The DPP appealed to the public to be patient as relevant authorities work on the case.

Kenei was attached to Deputy President William Ruto Harambee House Annex offices and was murdered over the Sh40 billion fake military tender that where ex-Sports CS Rashid Echesa is the lead suspect.

Preliminary findings by DCI indicate that Kenei’s murder emanated from the fake deal and that his killers may have been people involved in the fake arms deal that roped in some officials from the Defence Ministry.

“There is no doubt it was a cold murder. The motive of cold murder is very clear. It was simply to safeguard, protect, insulate and or save the source from the adverse involvement and attendance consequences using the military procurement process in the most deceitful and fraudulent manner,” Kinoti said.

Kenei’s body was found in his Imara Daima house on February 18, 2020 with a bullet hole through his chin but detectives have ruled out the possibility of suicide saying there was no blood at the scene.

In a 1 hour 22 min CCTV footage from the DP’s office released by the Kinoti, it suggests that Kenei may have been part of the military deal and his death was to silence him.

From the timeline of events going by the footage, former Sports CS Rashid Echesa held the meeting at Harambee House Annex offices on February 13, 2020, for 1 hour, 23 minutes contrary to what the DP’s office had earlier said that Echesa was in the building for 23 minutes only.

Kenei’s movements are captured by the CCTV at the VIP reception where he is seen escorting General Juma to the VIP lift. While leaving the lift a seconds later, Kenei is on phone for a moment before he hands it over to General Juma.
