Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Lawrence Njoroge in connection to the brutal killings of his family in Karura, Kiambu County.

Njoroge, a student at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) was arrested on Friday night. His girlfriend was also arrested.

He is the first born in his family which lost the father, mother, his cousin and farmhand in the brutal murder on Tuesday night.

Police say that Njoroge is a person of interest in the case especially because he remained quiet all through and sought refuge at his relative’s home in Kabete.

The detectives are now interrogating him to find out why he was quiet and hid in his relative’s place at a time he was supposed to be grieving with his family.

According to a DCI source, they are looking into some of the confessions that Njoroge has made.

They will also interrogate Njoroge’s relatives who hosted him since Tuesday night when his phone went off and later traced in Mai Mahiu.

Preliminary investigations state that Njoroge’s clothes were burnt at Mai Mahiu moments after the Tuesday night attack on his family.

Kiambu County police commander Ali Nuno said Njoroge was later arrested after his phone’s signal turned up in Kabete, Wangige area to be precise.

DCI is yet to reveal if or not Njorge was directly involved in the killing of his family.

On Tuesday night, five assailants stormed 56-year-old Nicholas Njoroge’s homestead in Karura and executed a bloody murder.
