Jubilee supporters in Central Kenya and Rift Valley regions broke into song and dance in jubilation of a Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.

A six-judge bench led by Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday said Uhuru’s victory has been upheld by the apex court.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited,” said Maraga.

The two cases had been filed by Njonjo Mue of ICJ Kenyan chapter, Khelef Khalifa of Muhuri and former Kilome MP Harun Mwau.

In Central, Nyeri, Kiambu and Murang’a residents hit the streets with song and dance bringing businesses to a standstill.

Pro-Uhuru chants rent the air while others brandished twigs and boda boda riders’ hooted non-stop as a sign of their happiness for a second round of victory for their leader.

In Rift Valley, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and his Deputy Daniel Chemno led a battery of Jubilee supporters in song and dance.

In his address, Mandago said, as reported by the Star: “At last justice has been done. We will now wait for Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto to be sworn-in so we can move forward as a country.”

Via twitter, Deputy President William Ruto led another brigade of Kenyans in celebrating the victory.

“Hallelujah! Glory to God in heaven. He has remembered our nation, given us hope and a future. Wakenya jameni mbarikiwe mpaka mshangae (Kenyans, may you be so blessed that it leaves you shocked),” read the tweet.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen said: “This chapter is over, President Uhuru is at the helm until 2022 and those who have the energy can meet us in the next election. We will implement the Constitution as well as Jubilee manifesto which was communicated to Kenyans before the elections.”

Uhuru’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdulahi noted that: “This ruling is welcome as it has brought an end to challenges that were tied to the petitions; it’s time for the President to build his government and for the Opposition to focus on their watchdog position.”

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale said Uhuru will now embark on unifying the country.

“It’s now the journey of bringing unity, equity for the people as the President focuses on uniting the country to those who voted for him and those that did not,” said the Garissa Township MP.

Thirdway Alliance’s Dr Ekuru Aukot said the ruling is a demonstration the court exercised autonomy and that the political class has learnt it cannot influence the decision of the court.

“We have been on the right side of history and we will stand with Kenyans to move forward because the dispute is now over. The journey to uniting Kenya starts.”
