Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has nominated lawyer Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Governor.

The Governor presented forwarded Miguna’s name to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi on Wednesday for vetting and approval by the House.

“I hereby forward my nominee, Lawyer Miguna Miguna to undergo full vetting process and approval by the County Assembly for the position of Deputy Governor,” reads part of the letter according to Citizen Digital.

“The nominee meets all the requirements provided for in the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, the Elections Act and County Government Act,” added the letter.

It was widely expected that Miguna would return to the country yesterday after he announced a fortnight ago that he would make a comeback on May 16.

However, he cancelled the trip the last minute citing that the Immigration department has frustrated his bid to come back to his home country.

Lawyers Nelson Havi, and Cliff Ombeta who are part of Miguna’s legal team have confirmed that their client was nominated for the position of Deputy Governor.

His nomination is likely to spark a fierce political debate within political circles given that Miguna is a critic of Jubilee administration.

Further, since he has been declared a non-citizen, it is yet to be seen how government will react.
