The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has suspended embattled Secretary-General Wilson Sossion over alleged misconduct.

On Monday, the National Executive Council met where the decision was arrived at.

Out of the 24 members, 22 voted for while only two voted against the decision and probe Sossion’s conduct.

In Sossions’s absence, KNUT’s most authoritative organ picked KNUT Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno to be the acting Secretary-General.

Otieno is tasked with ensuring the smooth running if the union as an in-depth probe on Sossion’s conduct is conducted.

According to Capital FM News, the now nominated ODM MP had made unsuccessful attempts to resist the introduction of the motion against him stating the NEC had proceeded to discuss the agenda he had tabled.

“The SG (Sossion) walked out and stated that he wished to be allowed to proceed to the advisory council venue and that he was not part of the voting exercise,” the minutes recorded according to Capital FM News.

“Some members indicated their desire to abstain and were allowed to exercise their right to choose,” added the minutes.

There has been piling pressure for Sossion to vacate office since he is not a nominated MP.

Last year, immediate former Labour CS Phylis Kandie in a gazette notice asked Sossion and other ten union leaders to vacate office following their election or nomination to Parliament.

Sossion however, declined to vacate office , a move that split KNUT where one faction supports him while the other pushes for his removal from office.
