Stay off military matters, Ruto warns Raila

Few hours after opposition boss Raila Odinga sensationally accused Jubilee of using the military and National Intelligence Service (NIS) to rig August polls, Deputy President William Ruto has hit back.

Ruto in a statement addressed to Raila, said that the two security agencies are professional bodies that are just doing their work of protecting Kenyan citizens.

He warned Raila against dragging the military into poll rigging.

“Our military men and women are professionals who should be left to do their work and should not be dragged into issue to do with elections,” warned the DP.

His warning came after Raila on Tuesday during a press conference at his Capitol Hill office alleged that Jubilee has held secret meetings with NIS to lay a plot on how to rig polls in August.

He said NIS has held two secret meetings at the Lake Naivasha and Great Rift Valley Lodge to create a cohesive plot to rig August 8 polls.

The former Prime Minister also alleged that Jubilee has turned Embakasi Military Barracks to a “strategizing ground” for poll rigging ”just like in 2007”.

He said military personnel are being trained to act as election officials.

But in a rejoinder, Interior Ministry led by CS Joseph Nkaissery dispelled Raila’s claims citing that government has initiated a five-day program that will have military personnel together with APs, regular police as well as other disciplined forces trained on crowd control during elections.

The DP said the NASA Presidential candidate is issuing such statements due to panic since he does not have a solid agenda to convince Kenyans to vote for him.

He advised the opposition team to come up with solid agenda and sell it to Kenyans if at all they should compete with Jubilee in the August 8 polls.

“They should sell their agenda to Kenyans to woo their support and leave the military out of the August general election,” the DP noted.
