The story of deceased Msambweni MP Sulieman Dori is one that embodies the saying “where there is a will, there is a way”.

Dori passed on at the Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa at the age of 42. He was admitted at the hospital on Sunday night with doctors saying that he needed more blood.

The MP who died early Monday morning after succumbing to a long battle with cancer rose from the ashes like a phoenix to become one of the most revered politicians from the Coast.

His primary school days at Gazi Primary School Msambweni were no a walk in the park as he had to study under a tree. He proceeded to secondary school, Wa High School where he dropped out and headed to Mombasa to start a new life.

While leaving with his sister, he got enrolled at Tudor Secondary School where he completed his O Levels and took up an IT course thereafter before dropping out due to lack of school fees.

It is at this point, reports the Standard, that he started selling charcoal and firewood together with his friend.

In 2001, he relocated to Nairobi where he started repairing phones and saved up enough money and returned to college where he studied a diploma in Community Development at Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) college.

With a lot of zeal, he established several businesses including a clearing and forwarding firm at the Port of Mombasa. He also had an interest in the transport sector.

In 2013, he threw his hat in the political arena and was elected on an ODM ticket as Msambweni MP which he secured his re-election in 2017.

Late last year, he hit headlines over his row with ODM together with Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.

The two MPs had been expelled from the party but Dori managed to put up a fiery case against ODM over his alleged dalliance with Deputy President William Ruto and was allowed back.

He has been survived by a widow and two children.
He is expected to be buried on Monday afternoon at his home in Gasi.
