All eyes are on the Milimani Law Courts where three election petitions are set for ruling today.

The court is expected to make a ruling on an election petition challenging Embakasi East MP’s victory Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, that for Charity Ngilu who was elected as Kitui Governor and Embakasi North’s James Gakuya.

Babu’s election was challenged by Jubilee’s Francis Mureithi. Justice Joseph Sergon who is presiding over the case ordered for a vote recount.

A report on the vote recount showed Babu got 46, 817 votes against his rivals 42, 501 votes. The report was signed by High Court Deputy Registrars Esther Mburu and Mbayaki Wafula.

Judge Sergon is expected to rule if Babu’s election was free and fair.

Ngilu’s election victory has been challenged by former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe before Judge Pauline Nyamweya.

Malombe told the court that the gubernatorial election in Kitui was marred by irregularities including voter bribery and intimidation all of which do not reflect the will of the people.

Judge Nyamweya had earlier ordered for scrutiny and recount of votes in 50 polling stations where Malombe claimed there was rigging, reports the Star.

Malombe also said that in some cases, the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered voters.
