Tononoka High School principal dies from COVID-19 as 276 new cases are recorded

Another 276 new cases were recorded on Monday bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 49,997.

A sample size of 2,126 was tested in the last 24 hours which brings the total tests so far to 662,046, a statement by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe read.

Out of the 276 cases, 273 were Kenyans and three were foreigners. 179 were males and 97 females.

The youngest was a two-year-old child, while the oldest was 90 years old.

A further 220 people recovered from the disease, 150 of whom were from the home-based programme while 70 were from various hospitals in the country.

The total recoveries are now 34,429.

Sadly, 18 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 920.

Among the deceased is Tononoka High School Principal, Mohammed Khamis.

According to a report by Daily Nation, he died a short while after testing positive.

He was among 11 teachers at the school who tested positive for coronavirus last week.
