Transparency International denies knowledge of document linking governors to Raila campaign funding

Transparency International has denied any knowledge of a document doing rounds on social media allegedly exposing governors who allegedly have been illegally funding NASA campaigns using county funds.

TI-Kenya Executive Director Peter Kimeu distanced the organization from the document which has TI’s logo.

He said no one in TI-Kenya or any other person involved with the organization authored the document which is trending on Twitter under the hashtag #NaswaGate Scandal.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the use of Transparency International and Transparency International Kenya’s names and logo to spread propaganda for seemingly political mileage,” he said in a statement as reported by the Star.

He also said that the organization has no political affiliation.

“TI-Kenya remains politically neutral as a guide by its core values, and does not lean towards any political formations.”

The fake document asserts that governors allied to Raila Odinga’s NASA used sh78.6 billion to fund his campaign for the Presidency in the August 8 polls.

Kimeu said reports and statements of the organization can only be found on the official website of the organization, www.tikenya.org.

“We have contacted the relevant authorities to investigate this criminal act and hope that the culprits will be found and punished,” he noted.

NASA has not responded to the fake document.

In November last year, Raila came under fire from Jubilee stalwarts who accused him of defending corrupt governors allied to the opposition.

The leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale said the governors fund Raila’s foreign trips, his accommodation and other things.

But Raila dismissed the claims by Jubilee terming them as hogwash.
