Two COVID-19 cases confirmed at Industrial Area Remand Prison as number increases to 649

Twenty-eight more people have tested positive for coronavirus bringing the total cases in Kenya to 649.

Alarmingly, two of the 28 cases were reported at Industrial Area Remand Prison in Nairobi according to Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman.


In his daily brief on Saturday, Dr Aman said that 24 of the new cases are Kenyans and four are Tanzanians.

Mombasa recorded 10 cases, Nairobi (9), Migori (4), Kajiado (2) Kiambu (1), Machakos (1) and Homa Bay (1).

Five more people were discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 207. However, one more person died in Mombasa bringing the death toll to 30.

The Ministry of Health has since tested a total of 31,041 samples for Covid-19 since March when the first case was recorded.
