Two Kenyans allegedly trafficking narcotics were on Thursday arrested by South Sudan National Police as they made their way to Juba International Airport.
Police in a statement said that they had been trailing the duo who have been linked to a drug trafficking syndicate.
They are part of a cartel who South Sudan has been investigating in the models they use to export heroine to other parts of the country using Juba as a main route.
“South Sudan National Police Service have arrested two Kenyans, two Nigerians, and a South Sudanese woman with 26kg of heroin at the airport,” South Sudan police said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear which country the heroine found in possession of the two Kenyans was destined for.
The drugs had been disguised as electrical devices for export.
In the recent past, narcotics whose point of transportation has been traced back to Juba has been impounded at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) headed for other destinations.
Kenyan authorities in several cases said that the drugs are transported to Europe via Juba-Kenya points.
In January, police confiscated several kilos of methamphetamine at JKIA which was headed for India and Australia.
According to Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the narcotics were from Zambia and had been hidden in books and hair braids.
The first consignment headed to Australia from Zambia was hidden in books while the second one from South Sudan had been hidden in hair braids.
