Two rugby players charged with gang-raping singer

Two Kenyan rugby players have been arraigned before Milimani Law Courts to answer to charges of gang-raping during her birthday two months ago.

Lawrence Frank Wanyama and Alex Mahaga Olaba who play for Kenya Harlequin Rugby club appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and denied the charges.

They were released on Sh500, 000 bond each.

Their arraignment comes after investigations by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

In court papers, reports Nairobi News, the victim has been identified as W.A. She alleges she was gang-raped by the two men on the night of her birthday at Seefa Apartments in Highrise estate, Nairobi.

Upon check-up, doctors have revealed she is already pregnant. Six witnesses have recorded a statement on the issue.

The suspects urged the court to release them citing that they still want to take part in the remaining part of IRB Rugby Sevens circuit series. They pledged to abide by all conditions set by the court.

The case is set for hearing on May 16.
