Health officials from Uganda are investigating the death of a Kenyan woman who died in the country recently.
The 34-year-old Kenyan woman had been admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms at a clinic in Mbale District before passing on.
Mbale is in the eastern part of Uganda.
“At the time of her first admission she presented with Covid-19 related symptoms that included fever, headache and difficulty in breathing,” Uganda Health Ministry Spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyoona said according to Nairobi News.
Samples from the deceased have been obtained and sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe for testing in order to ascertain the cause of death.
Another team of investigators from the ministry has been dispatched to conduct parallel investigations as report indicate that at the time of her death, the clinic had been closed.
“The Ministry will be informing the country on the outcome of the laboratory testing and experts’ investigative result, accordingly,” Ainebyoona added.
Her body was still at Mbale Hospital mortuary by the time of filing this report.
This is the second death of a Kenyan in Uganda since the outbreak of the virus in March.
A month ago, a trucker from Nyeri County reportedly died from coronavirus while in his truck at a revenue clearing point in Uganda.
Uganda is has recorded low COVID-19 cases with just 1,075 cases and 958 recoveries.
In Kenya, things are a bit different. Over 14, 000 cases have been confirmed as since March when the first case was reported.
