President Uhuru Kenyatta has spelt out tough measures in a bid to tame the spread of COVID-19 in what has now borne restricted movement in and of Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa for the next 21 days.
The order will effectively start from Monday, April 6, for Nairobi while that of the other counties will start on Wednesday.
This comes as 16 more people tested positive for coronavirus putting the country’s total tally at 158 cases.
In his directive, Uhuru said that most of the cases reported are from Nairobi, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombaa counties which had informed his decision to secede movement.
“This virus doesn’t care about the size of your wallet…in defeating it ..we should face the enemy standing side by side. Our unity is demonstrated by each Kenyan going the extra mile,” he said.
Uhuru insisted that all Kenyans must adhere to safety standards set including wearing masks while in public spaces and washing of hands all the time.
“Kenyans should wear a mask while in public places. There will be thousands of tailors who will make these masks,” stated Uhuru.
Even as this comes, Chinese billionaire Jack Ma made a second round of donations geared towards fighting coronavirus.
The donations which include 500 ventilators, 200,000 suits and face shields, 2,000 thermometers, one million swabs and extraction kits and 500,000 gloves will be distributed to 54 African countries.
