Uhuru laments Raila is partly to blame for high maize flour prices

President Uhuru Kenyatta has fired a salvo at former Prime Minister this time round, linking him to “Unga politics” that have dominated Kenyan political scenes.

Uhuru while speaking at KICC Amphitheatre when during an endorsement by Ababu Namwamba Led Labour Party of Kenya (LPK), he said that Raila is partly to blame for the increase of prices for maize flour in the country besides the fact that there has been ravaging drought.

The President noted that in 2011 when Raila was the Prime Minister, maize prices hit sh140 per 2kg bag. Fast forward to today, it has hit sh150 per 2kg packet because his government then did not handle the situation well which has recurred but under Jubilee regime.

“When people demonstrated against the high prices, what did he do? He teargassed people and the prices never changed but remained so,” lamented the President as quoted by Daily Nation.

Uhuru said that Raila and his opposition team in NASA camp have used the maize issue to gain political mileage.

He said the opposition has painted his administration in a bad light and as a government that cares less about its citizens some of whom live below the poverty line.

“Now that we have reduced the price of Unga, he wants to side track the story that we are stealing. Jesus!”

He said that Jubilee is committed to reducing the cost of living which has been quite high.

But Raila in a rejoinder in Rarienda said that Uhuru was propagating a lie by linking him to the high prices of Maize because 2011 prices could not affect prices in 2017.

“The price of Maize in 2011 cannot affect the same in 2017. This is an absolute lie,” said Raila in response.
