Uhuru travels to Italy, set to address G7 summit on challenges of innovation in African economies

President Uhuru Kenyatta has left for Taormina, Italy where he is set to address world’s most powerful leaders in the 43rd G7 summit.

Uhuru’s plane left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) minutes before 7 am on Friday aboard several officials in government.

The President is expected to address the summit on some of the challenges brought about by innovation to the African continent with it as a factor of economic and developmental growth.

This year’s summit focus is on environmental sustainability, security, and global economy, foreign policy with its theme being “Building the foundations of renewed trust”.

Uhuru is the only African leader who has been invited to address the exclusive summit.

US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President-elect Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and the UK’s Teresa May are some of the world leaders who are in attendance at the summit.

The President’s invitation to the Summit has earned him more respect and will be perceived as a revered leader in the African continent.

His invitation to the summit will market Kenya as Africa’s leading investment hub.

The summit is a conglomeration of industrialized European nations which come together on an annual basis to discuss issues touching on global economic governance, international security among other things.

Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Tunisia government officials have been invited to represent Africa’s interests in the summit.
