UhuRuto inauguration ceremony cost Sh352 million, shows report

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto gobbled up Sh174 in travel and hospitality over a 90-day campaign period, a report by the Controller of Budget reveals.

The duo was on an intense campaign in the run to August 8 polls that was nullified by the Supreme Court on September 1 and fresh polls ordered within 60 days.

In another report to Parliament the Assumption of Office of the President Committee, it was revealed that the inauguration ceremony for the Jubilee duo took up Sh352.1 million, reports Nairobi News.

Of this amount, the lion share went to security, protocol and logistics which cost Sh146.3 million. This was used to pay for VIP transportation and paying security personnel during the fete.

A further Sh98.9 million went to Foreign Affairs

Luncheon at State House after the inauguration ceremony at Kasarani Stadium cost Sh46 million according to the committee while Sh45.9 million was allocated for media and communications.

A further Sh15 million shillings was paid out for entertainment.

Earlier, further reports Nairobi News, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho had said that the budget for the whole event would be Sh384 million and would cater for Jamhuri Day fete which was to be held in a fortnight after the inauguration ceremony.

It is not clear yet which committee of Parliament will scrutinize it.

The inauguration fete was attended by 180, 000 Kenyans according to the report.
