US-based Kenyan dies from complications related to COVID-19

A family from Molo in Nakuru County is mourning the death of their son, Mr Laban Kimungu which occurred in Massachusetts, USA.

The deceased is reported to have died from coronavirus which he contracted while undergoing treatment to an underlying condition at a Massachusetts hospital.

“It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the promotion to glory of Mr. Laban Kimungu Njoroge of Molo,” the family said in a statement according to the Star.

Mr Kimungu already had a family in the US who have been taking care of him.

“He had been undergoing treatment for an underlying condition when he succumbed to the Covid-19 on March 25, 2020,” the statement added.

Owing to the coronavirus outbreak in the world, his family has decided to hold online memorial services each day at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time.

On March 31, 2020, His family posted on the Kenyan diaspora website Samrack that an all-inclusive memorial service will be held and cremation of his body will follow thereafter.

“On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, we will have a celebration of life service from 7pm, with cremation to follow on Wednesday, April 1, 2020,” Read part of the obituary.

On Thursday, a 66-year-old man passed on at the Aga Khan University Hospital. The man had flown in on March 13 from South Africa via Swaziland. He had been admitted in the hospital’s ICU prior to his passing on.
