A Kenyan woman in Virginia, US, Elizabeth Chege whose husband perished in a car crash moments after stabbing her is now conscious after spending days in the hospital.

Chege recounted that she was stabbed by her husband, Christopher Mburu 17 times after a domestic disagreement.

She was stabbed on her back, chest and hands. Chege is recovering well according to close family and friends.

Her two daughters – Melissa and Faith Mburu – were still asleep when the incident happened.

Her wailing woke her daughters up and their father fled the scene only to be found stuck in his burning car in the woods along I-64 West road.

Together with the firefighters, police from Henrico made to the scene and located the vehicle which was plunged in a ditch in the woods.

Firefighters put out the fire using foam but 53-year-old Mburu succumbed to injuries.

The couple had three children who have not been left under the care of their mother who suffered severe injuries after the attack.

Her relatives and other well-wishers have set up a GoFundMe account to mobilise funds to help the mother raise her three children after the incident.

“We call upon everyone who stands up against domestic violence to help brave Elizabeth, the mother of three, have a peace of mind during this difficult time and be able to support her children on her long road to recovery,” a message posted by Shirin Azari, the organizer of the GoFundMe account read.
