US visa application to be made 30 days in advance, US Embassy in Nairobi announces

Kenyans seeking to travel to the U.S will have to apply for a visa 30 days before as opposed to the conventional one week before one is called in for an interview.

This is according to new guidelines released by the U.S Embassy citing they have increased waiting time due to huge seasonal visa demand for people seeking to travel to the U.S as well as rotation of its consular staff at the Embassy.

The US Embassy Nairobi, through a notice has asked its staff to inform those seeking to travel to the U.S of the new changes so that they can re-adjust themselves and plan accordingly.

U.S Embassy Press Attaché Fiona Evans in a statement said they are committed to facilitating travel to the U.S but urge possible travelers to plan ahead.

“As always, we are working to accommodate and facilitate travel to the U.S but recommend that travelers plan ahead.”

She added even with the changes, waiting time for interviews remain unchanged.

“The seasonal demand for visas and the rotation of our consular staff does not affect the wait time for interviews at the U.S Embassy during some periods of the year, including the months of June, July and August,” she noted.
