A Kenyan mother, Susan Wangui has shocked the country after her sober narration void of remorse following the death of his son who was beaten by a mob for stealing.
Wangui who visibly seems unshaken by the death of her 19-year-old son Derrick Ndung’u said that she is aware his son was a thief.
Wangu said that she has tried everything humanly possible to get his son out of crime but he chose not to listen to her.
She says she has had to deal with many theft cases by his son and at one time, called police on him and he was remanded for three months.
“Mimi najua ni mwizi siwezi mtetea..Kuna wakati aliletwa ameibia mtu, mimi mwenyewe nikaita polisi wakamshika na akapelekwa ndani. Kupelekwa ndani akakaa miezi tatu,” she said.
It loosely translates to in English: “I know he is a thief, I can deny that …There is a time he stole from someone and I called police on him and he was arrested. He was behind bars for three months.”
Wangui says her family asked her to soften up. She bailed him out on Sh500, 000 bond that did not stop his penchant for stealing.
She says despite her offers to start a business for him, he always refused; all he wanted was to hang out with a clique of friends who, together, they stole phones from people and later sold them to a broker only identified as “Mso”.
Ndung’u was allegedly killed after a beating by a mob. He had tried to snatch a mobile phone from hawker but was pounced on by boda boda operators who beat him to death.
She warned his friends whom they were engaging in crime with that they would soon be consigned to the same fate if they do not change their ways.
“Na wale vijana wanafantanga kazi kama hii, nawahimiza wawache juu wakikataa kuacha, pia wao watakufa.”
In English, it loosely translates to: “And to the youth who do this kind of business, I am advising them to stop because if they do not stop, they will also die.”
