President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have held their last national prayer breakfast meeting before the country goes to the ballot on August 8.

But what crowned the prayer meeting was the urge by both leaders to preach peace ahead of the polls.

Uhuru categorically noted that politicians should not take the gift of peace in vain citing that there are nations which long to have peace but they cannot.

“We must never take the gift of peace for granted because there are some that have not enjoyed it. We need to exercise our democratic right and also preach peace,” he said.

The national prayer breakfast meeting organized by Parliament was held at Safari Park Hotel on Thursday.

He said as a leader, he has put emphasis on the need for peace even after elections regardless of who wins.

“We have no other country but Kenya. Regardless of who wins the elections, we need to walk that journey freely.”

The DP on his part underscored that they have made tremendous steps in uniting the country.

“For the first time, we are going into the elections less divided,” he said.

On matters politics, the two leaders said they hoped that their competitors would campaign on issues affecting Kenyans and not sideshows and propaganda.

“I am confident that campaigns will dwell on issues,” said the DP adding that they are optimistic of having a second win.

“We believe that as a people, no weapon fashioned against us will prosper.”
