Three people died on Saturday evening around 6:30pm after a septic tank caved in at a wedding ceremony in Mishomoroni, Mombasa County.
They were sitting on the septic tank posing for photos when the concrete floor caved in. The victims- 2 are minors aged 14 and 16 and one adult died while receiving treatment in hospital.
“Over 10 people were sitting at the septic tank taking selfies when it collapsed,” said Hillary Rizi according to the Star.
Four other people are recuperating at the Coast General hospital, Jocham hospital and Said Fathma hospital.
Witnesses said it would have been more fatal if some of those sitting on the floor of the septic tank did not escape.
Fire fighters from Mombasa County conducted the rescue operation took about 4 hours to get those who had been trapped out.
The rescue operation ended at around 10pm.
