As the world marked International Women’s Day on March 8, Winnie Wangui did not know that big brother was watching.

A photo of 23-year-old Wangui in a yellow football jersey busy breastfeeding her young child during halftime went viral courtesy of Real Grafix Factory.

She was in Njambini participating in a football tournament organized by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau to mark the auspicious day for women.

Wangui was playing for her team Njambini Women against Karangatha Women.

Soon after, her sad story aired out. She survives by selling Safaricom lines before returning home where she lives with her grandmother.

Wangui says her husband took off and left her to raise the baby alone.

Sports commentator and media personality Carol Radul was first to ask those who know her to share her details.

Now, she has planned to visit her together with Rware FC officials. Radul says that Wangui not only showed great love for football but also the love for her child.

“When not training with her team ‘Morvel Dadas’ Winnie sells safaricom airtime to make ends meet. She lives with her grandmother after her child’s father took off.

“I have spoken to Winnie who says she lives with her grandmother after her child’s father took off. I hope to visit her soon with officials from @rwareunitedfc_nyeri,” Radul said.

Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro said that he spoke with Wangui and asked Kenyans of goodwill to support her with the little they can so that she can raise her kid.

Travel and tour company Expeditions Maasai Safaris has pledged fully catered for three-day stay to Mombasafor Wangui and her child.
