A bodyguard attached to Bungoma Senator and NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula has been charged.

Simon Lonyia appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Francis Andayi at the MIlimani Law Courts on Wednesday.

He was charged with causing disturbance at the Supreme Court by entering with a firearm and also resisting arrest by Nairobi Central OCPD Robinson Thuku.

He denied the charges and was released on free bond of sh20, 000.

Lonyia caused a stampede at the Supreme Court on Monday when he forced his way in at the main gate and defied orders to lodge his gun with the officers at the gate.

What followed was a chaotic scene as Thuku together with other officers bundled him outside.

This irked Wetangula and NASA boss Raila Odinga who almost lost his cool at that moment.

Police have also dismissed reports that he was fired.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Geirge Kinoti said Lonyia as only being “disciplined” and not being fired as earlier reports had indicated.

The disciplinary process according to Kinoti is yet to be completed.

The Magistrate ordered Lonyia to register his ID number with the Court registry.

He will appear on September 18 for hearing.
