Jubilee regime has come under sharp criticism from billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi and family over attempts to persecute him due to political differences.

Speaking at his residence on Wednesday flanked by opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula, Wanjigi termed the 72-hour siege as a political hunt.

He said officers who raided his Muthaiga home on Tuesday assaulted his wife.

“They assaulted my wife [Irene Nzisa] as she tried to record the breakages in the house. GSU officers came into this home guarding us like we are criminals. It’s very sad that a government can do that to its citizens,” he told the press in a brief.

He said it pains him that President Uhuru Kenyatta led government wants to execute him after having been friends.

Wanjigi recounted that Uhuru together with Raila met at this house, dined and shook hands as a sign of peace after Supreme Court ruling in 2013.

“It’s very sad that [these] people are attacking me today yet their government was formed here. Raila and Uhuru shook hands here in a show of peace,” he recalled.

But, he said, even with the attempts by government to politically persecute him, his support for NASA remains unwavering.

“My support for Baba remains unwavering and unshaken because it is every Kenyan’s right to support anyone they wish to without victimization,” said he.

Wanjigi dismissed claims he owns a house in Malindi which was on Monday raided by police officers and five AK47 rifles confiscated together with 93 rounds of ammunition.

On Tuesday, officers from various units raide his Muthaiga home where they literally forced their way into the house.

They used sledgehammers, axes and bolt cutters to gain entrance to his house.

Here, they confiscated a M4 rifle.

But Wanjigi in his defense said his all firearms he owns are licensed.

Raila in his remarks said Wanjigi’s recent woes are all about personal vendetta.

“Jimmy Wanjigi is no stranger to Uhuru Kenyatta because we have been here and we know it was just a set up by the government. The weapons found in the house in Malindi were recovered in the sea in 2012 so we are just witnessing a personal vendetta,” opined Raila.

NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula and Siaya Senator James Orengo said it was clear from Wanjigi’s political persecution Kenya was a failed State.

“It is very sad that we have witnessed a show of a failed state. Police should also be ashamed of not obeying orders from the courts,” Orengo said.

Wetangula added: “The raid on Wanjigi’s home was a show of crumbling of a state.”
