Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at section of leaders majorly from Mt Kenya region who have blamed him for their loss in the Jubilee Party primaries.
Speaking on Citizen TV during an interview on Tuesday, the DP boldly told them off saying, he “does not interfere with nominations.”
“My history, if you ask those people who I have worked with me in my political journey, they will tell you I never interfere with nominations,” he said.
In a response to accusations by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo that he could have prevented his rigging out, Ruto said numbers speak volumes.
“I do not want to answer that accusation. The numbers in the nominations exercise speak volumes.”
Kabogo on Sunday said that he notified Ruto of the presence of compromised presiding officers in Kiambu County before repeat primaries and he promised to have them changed. But he did not, which could mean that he wanted him out.
The DP also took a swipe at NASA for threatening to boycott elections over a row with IEBC which moved to the Appeals Court to appeal an earlier ruling of the High Court.
IEBC wants the ruling which stated that Presidential results announced at the constituency level are final to be overturned. NASA on the other hand, has opposed the move.
He termed NASA’s “threats, blackmail and intimidation” as tools of trade for “despots, dictators and terrorists.
Further, the Deputy President brushed off NASA’s assertion that they are “10 million-man strong”. He termed it as “stories” citing that Jubilee has more votes in NASA strongholds compared to 2013.
He also chided Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto for making an undeliverable pledged to NASA of 1.5 million votes from Rift Valley.
He said that Ruto was running away from a humiliating defeat from a lady-Dr Joyce Laboso in Bomet governorship.
“Isaac Ruto is running away from a humiliating defeat in the governor’s race from a lady; that is the reality.”
The DP also spit venom on section of Rift valley leaders who have told him to stay away from the region’s politics and allow President Uhuru Kenyatta to campaign personally,
He told them off stating that: “Uhuru Kenyatta campaigned with me in 2013; he knows how to win the votes of Rift Valley. He doesn’t need any lessons or lectures from anybody.”
