The US government has fulfilled a promise to help Kenya in fighting the Al-Shabaab by delivering the last batch of choppers to the Kenya Air Force.

The two helicopters were delivered on Wednesday, adding to six similar ones delivered in December 2016.

The fleet of eight helicopters cost Sh11.5 billion (USD 11.5 million).

The US embassy in Nairobi said that “They will bolster the KDF’s capacity to combat Al-Shabaab, an effort that will bring more stability and peace to East Africa”

The choppers will also be used to evacuate troops from danger zones as well as delivering emergency services and supplies.

“Our military cooperation with Kenya is one of the deepest and most important security relationships for the US in all of Africa” added officials at the Embassy.
