Kenyans cannot help but wonder just how 12 sewing needles found their way into the stomach of a ten-month-old girl in Thika.

The little girl was operated on Saturday at Thika Level Five Hospital. One more needle is stuck on the girl’s hip bone.

What’s surprising is that there were no penetration marks on the girl’s body.

Her mother, Jacinta Ndunge told the Star that she too has been shocked since she has never come into contact with such objects.

She took the little girl to hospital after she developed restlessness and a fever. She cried all the time.

“I decided to rush her to the hospital where she was at first diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted.”

“I had no idea what was ailing her as she would cry a lot when put in a sitting position,” said Ndunge.

While bathing her, she noticed a sharp object on her buttocks. She called the doctors and they removed one of the needles. A scan was then done on her and more needles were discovered.

“A doctor who was in the ward immediately responded and removed one needle after examining her, she said. “It was then that they ordered a scan which revealed that there were 13 other needles in my daughter’s body.”

Surgeons used image intensifier – a portable X-ray device, which guided them on the location of the objects.

Her mother has however dismissed the possibility of witchcraft.

“I actually don’t believe in witchcraft. Our family believes in prayers through which the unknown powers behind my daughter’s adversity will be revealed.”
