A family in Migori is mourning the death of their daughter who committed suicide after scoring a C minus (C-) grade in K.C.S.E.

The results were released on Wednesday by Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i.

Carren Ouma reportedly got frustrated at the results she posted.

In 2016, she sat for her first K.C.S.E exam at Osingo secondary school and failed to post impressive results to secure her a slot at the university.

She decided to go back to school and give another shot at Kuria secondary but ended up scoring a C- which to her, was unimaginable. She had hoped to post a C+ and above.

She jumped into a well after she got to know her results which she had been waiting for patiently.

Area Chief Mwai Odillo said Ouma jumped into a well located at her homestead.

“She first sat her exams at Osingo Secondary before moving to a school in Kuria and still ended up getting the same grade,” the chief told Daily Nation.

Her parents were too shocked to say a word about their daughter who is now dead.

Her body was taken to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Ouma was among scores of students who were disappointed by the 2017 K.C.S.E results.

This year, those expected to proceed to public universities are fewer compared to last year and previous years.

Only 70,073 out of the 611,952 candidates (11.5 per cent) managed the minimum university entry qualification of mean grade C+.
