The prestigious St Andrew’s Turi management in Molo, Nakuru County, is counting losses after a fierce inferno on Sunday.

The fire gutted down several buildings in the institution, but there were no casualties.

Nakuru’s fire department, Molo community, and the police’ concerted efforts helped contain the fire before it wreaked more havoc.

“Today has been one of those days; a fire whose cause is yet to be established brought down BP Hall at Prep School. Still, we are thankful for God’s mercies; everyone is safe and the fire was contained. We are also truly grateful to the larger Turi Community, who have displayed love and support this afternoon for our school,” St Andrew said in a statement.

The school tops the list of an elite schools in Kenya. Parents whose kids school here are known for their deep pockets.

St Andrew’s Turi has been in existence since 1931, when Peter and Jean Lavers founded it.

It intended to offer educational opportunities for the whites who inhabited Kenya in the pre-colonial era.

It only had 15 students at the time. The school now has more than 600 students from Kenya and East Africa.

Peter and Jean Lavers combined their skills to set up and run the school successfully.

Peter focused on administrative duties, while Lavers concentrated on the academic and pastoral needs of the students.

The couple felt that their work was in direct obedience to God’s calling to build a Christian school hence the strong emphasis on Christian love and care in the school’s running to date.

St Andrews runs a preparatory, senior school, and a college, all bringing together learners from different countries across the globe.
