All systems go as IEBC conducts successful results simulation

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), on Wednesday successfully tested digital systems set in place for tallying and transmission of poll results.

The transmission simulation was held at the National Tallying Centre (NTC) at the Bomas of Kenya.

The simulation involved mock presidential results transmitted live from all county headquarters.

The IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati guaranteed Kenyans of his administration’s commitment to deliver a free and fair election.

Wafula added that all servers supporting the transmission system are under control of agency administrators, minimizing chances or vulnerabilities.

“IEBC has provided its own independent equipment and servers, on both ends of the transmission chain (sending and receiving). The commission remains wholly responsible and in-charge of the operationalisation and security of its equipment and servers during this time,” he told members of the press corps and election observers at the NTC.

The transmission will be encrypted, and all three telecommunication companies contracted to provide network connection services will provide a secure conduit for the transmission.
